You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who can do nothing for them or to them.

I grew up in a family of seven boys. We were very fortunate to have a mother and father who made certain we were well cared for and well educated.  I attended St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Kenmore, New York, Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania and the University of Toledo College of Law in Toledo, Ohio.

My father, Genuino (Bill) Grande played an instrumental role in my decision to pursue a career in the field of labor relations. During the '60s, my dad served as an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in Pittsburgh and Buffalo.  In 1969, he became a member of the firm of Flaherty, Cohen & Grande in Buffalo where he represented management in all aspects of labor relations until his retirement in December 1994.

Sadly, my dad passed away on February 2, 1996.  In his memory, I am placing a link on this page to a memorial article that was published in the 1997 Winter Edition of Common Ground, the Newsletter for the Industrial Relations Research Association for Western New York.   The article is posted with the permission of its author, Dr. James R. McDonnell, and the IRRA for WNY.
